Susan Angel Miller is an organ donation advocate, certified grief educator, and keynote speaker on grief, resilience, and post-traumatic growth.
In Susan's memoir Permission to Thrive: My Journey from Grief to Growth, Susan shares her journey which begins when her healthy fourteen-year-old daughter Laura dies within days of being diagnosed with an aggressive and cancerous brain tumor. She also reflects on her family’s decision—on the worst day of their lives—to donate Laura’s liver, which saved the life of a 40-year old special education teacher in New York.
When Susan speaks at donor family recognition ceremonies, healthcare organizations, and medical centers, she stresses the positive impact this organ donation story has had on her family's healing, personal growth, and hope.
She works with Versiti Organ & Tissue on the development of their employee resiliency program, raises money for organ donation education and brain cancer research, and serves on the Board of Directors of SODA. In addition, Susan continues to volunteer with Milwaukee nonprofit organizations, mentoring future leaders and helping nurture vibrant and sustainable communities.
She received her undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Michigan and her MBA from Loyola University in Chicago. She is married to her husband Ron, and they are the proud parents of Sara, Rachel, and their forever-beloved Laura.
