The Association of Organ Procurement Organizations (AOPO) is the voice for organ procurement organizations (OPOs), entities dedicated to saving as many lives as possible through organ, eye and tissue donation in the United States each year. As a national non-profit organization, AOPO promotes innovation, advocacy, and education in partnership with OPOs.
 
OPOs play a critical role within the organ donation and transplantation system, serving as vital links between donors and patients awaiting organ transplants. They collaborate closely with donor hospitals and transplant programs, operating within tight timeframes to assess and match donated organs with suitable recipients based on clinical considerations. Additionally, OPOs extend support to donor families, actively work to increase organ donation rates, and engage in research to advance science in the field. 
 
AOPO envisions a future where every donation opportunity results in lives saved. Thus, in an effort to achieve AOPO’s goal of 50,000 annual transplants in 2026, AOPO members and stakeholders have committed themselves to a series of initiatives. These include initiatives to reduce health inequities, expand collaboration, drive innovation, and maximize organ utilization. The primary objective of AOPO is to ensure that everyone in need of a life-saving organ can receive a transplant without burden.
